Charred Rotisserie House
244 James St. N.,
Hamilton, ON
There is just something about good chicken.
On our favorite street (as you may have guessed by now), James St N, there is a fairly new joint with fresh delicious charred chicken. Portuguese brothers who have a family history in the neighbourhood own this little restaurant, so they pride themselves on good home-cooked charred chicken. It’s delicious food (Shane McCartney of Jack and Lois and McCartney and Son’s helped design the menu) and a great atmosphere.
Logo
Red, white and sleek. The design reminds us of a vintage Coca-Cola bottle and that’s exactly what we like. Strong brand influence with a strong colour… we like it! (Especially with the vintage pop bottles they have inside).
Atmosphere
Charred Rotisserie House is small but perfect. Black, red and exposed brick and a designed chalkboard menu all help to make this place trendy and appealing. It’s small inside but still perfect for dining in. (Their take out menu will be ready for Supercrawl!)
The owners are also great. Greeted with a nice smile and a friendly tone, you really feel a part of the James St N community.

Food
Lindsay – I had the poutine. Being the only non-meat eater of the bunch, I volunteered to try this one. Okay so of course I volunteered. Who wouldn’t? It was honestly the best poutine I have ever tasted. The fries were crunchy and delicious but the best part was the piri piri curds. It added the perfect spice to my dish. I paired it with a Caesar salad (they make their own dressing!) and an adorable old school Ginger Ale, right in the bottle. It was super cute and totally helped their brand. I think it might have been my favourite part! The portions were great. The small poutine was even a lot. A real bang for your buck.
Heather & Dan (Heather’s Boyfriend): We both tried out the piri-piri chicken with home fries/roasted potatoes…. and sorry Swiss Chalet but we’re never looking back! This was delicious and fresh cooked to order. I (Heather) have been craving it since the first taste. Yum! I’m not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing that Charred is so close to my house. 😉
Justin (Lindsay’s Bf) – “I got the Chicken on a Bun…..”
Well that’s basically all Justin had to say about it considering he had chicken in his mouth the entire time we were there. He loved every bite of the large serving size and hardly came up for air. I think having a vegetarian girlfriend has been hard on him. We’re glad he got his chicken fix!
Brand
We think Charred has done a smart thing and catered to the artistic 20 year old and the 30 year old professional. It’s hip, vintage, trendy and did we mention amazing chicken?
When you walk into Charred you feel like you are in a small rotisserie house somewhere in New York. It’s upscale enough for the professional crowd but down to earth for James St N’s colourful artists. It’s easy on any wallet with enough food to bring home for later. Bold colours, bold food. You’re on point Charred!

Recommendations
You’ve got the grill. You’ve got the chicken. And you’ve got the atmosphere down pat. Now it is time for some serious love online. A website is a huge must and will help display your restaurant, menu and help promote your overall brand. People will google you for information, so make sure they have somewhere to go!
Same with social media. Doing a pretty good job with Twitter, but definitely get on Facebook and Instagram. Don’t forget to use #HamOnt to draw in community members.
