Paisley Coffeehouse & Eatery
1020 King Street West, Hamilton, ON L8S 1L4
Nestled in the small plaza that also houses the historic Westdale Theatre, you’ll find the recently renamed, rebranded, and renovated ‘Paisley Coffee’.
Formerly the neighbourhood homey favourite My Dog Joe, the owners of Paisley Coffeehouse have revamped the space to be an aesthetically-pleasing light-filled haven, full of white walls, colourful abstract art, succulents and chalkboard signage. Before you walk into the beautiful space, the first thing you notice is their adorable new teal and gold overhead sign (which just so happens to be my favourite colour pairing)!
Inside, you’ll be welcomed with the smell of warm baked goods, a friendly barista, and a comfy seat.
A few weeks ago, I was invited out to a media tasting to check out the new space and try some of their new food. I’ve been back since, because the food and drinks were pretty darn tasty, but some of the dishes I sampled were:
Iced Mocha
I loved how large this Iced Mocha was, which is rare in a fancier coffee shop. It also wasn’t overly sweet, more on the espresso side with a slight hint of chocolate. Tasty for those hot days (because we know we’ll get a random hot one here or there, right?!).
The Downpayment: Avocado Toast, Roasted Tomato, Arugula and Balsamic Reduction
This was my personal favourite from the tasting, I even ended up re-ordering it next time I visited. It was a thick slice of bread (a bit too thick to still look like a classy lady while eating), topped with a delicious pairing of sweet tomatoes/peaches, savoury feta and classic avocado spread. I’d order this again and again, despite having to be a messy Bessie while eating it. 😉
Westdale Banh Mi: Roasted Mushrooms, Pickled Veg, and Cashew Cream
Their soft buns were baked in house, and topped with pickled veggies. I love pickles, so this was perfect for me. It’s definitely an interesting take on a Banh Mi.
Garden Salad
Classic, tasty, beautiful and delicious. If you’re going for a healthier option – this will be a good pick.
Salted Caramel Vegan Cookie
Chewy, huge and delicious. My kinda cookie and you couldn’t even tell this one was vegan. (No pics of this one unfortunately, because I mowed down.)
On top of all their new small café dishes, sandwiches and made-in-house baked goods (like in-store made donuts!), they also have a pretty great craft beer selection.
I could see this place filling up during the chillier months. A warm drink and a fresh baked good are the perfect medley for Fall work days and their food options make it an ideal way to spend your day.
