Mealshare launched in Hamilton in the Summer of 2019 and have since been making a difference in the community, one meal at a time.
Mealshare is active in cities across Canada, and lucky for us, you can find Mealshare at several restaurants around our city!
Basically, each restaurant involved chooses a few favourite items off their menu that are then “Mealshare items”. These are usually marked on the menu with a Mealshare logo. For every Mealshare item purchased, Mealshare provide one meal to a youth in need. Half of these meals are shared right in the Hamilton through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton. The other half are shared around the world through Save The Children.
Mealshare restaurants in the Hamilton area have included Mezcal, The Lunch Lady, Mill Street and 5, Taylor’s Tea Room, Bliss Kitchen, West Avenue Cider, Kamoosh, Lou Dawg’s and Lotus & the Bee. Wow, the options!
And there’s more exciting news – recent restaurants onboard as of Fall 2019 include: Valentino’s, Radius, and Shy’s Place!
You can find the full listing of Hamilton Mealshare restaurants at THIS LINK – this page will even show you how many meals each restaurant has shared throughout the program.
I was lucky to be taken out to lunch with the Mealshare team (the lovely Heather), to a restaurant I’ve been meaning to visit: Shy’s Place!
Shy’s Place is located up on number five in a grand old home. Their décor is bright and sunny, homey and cozy, and they make everything on their brunch, lunch and dinner menu from scratch; from pastas and pizzas to entrees and desserts!
On this visit we chose some of the Mealshare items (of course): their Daily Soup – which was a Brussel Sprout and Bacon Soup, Creole Fried Shrimp and Deep-Fried French Toast.
Other Mealshare items at Shy’s Place include their Mushroom and Pepper Diavola Pizza and Spaghetti & Meatballs… but one can only eat so much! 😉 I’ll have to try those another day.
Try out Mealshare for yourself! Visit one of the participating restaurants and give back to your community.
