I’m pretty sure their Facebook description says it all: “Great coffee. Tasty food. Fresh space. Happy face.” Located in Hamilton’s ward four – it may be a bit of a trek who don’t live out in that end of the city, but it’s worth it. Read more about my experience there below, and how I did have a Happy Face after it all.

Food and Drink

Serving up Detour Coffee (from Hamilton), Ward IV sure knows what they’re doing. Look at that perfect pour:

They have daily features including Picnic Sandwiches, Grilled Sandwiches and Baked Goods. I tried their Chicken and Brie Grilled Sandwich. It was basic, but delicious. The ideal meal to keep me going through my workday.

Logo

I love the minimalist, monochromatic design they’ve gone with. And the geometric theme inside the coffee bar has transferred over to the theme of their brand. Very cool

Atmosphere

For a smaller space, the tables are surprisingly large – it’s a great place to use a temporary “coffice”, for when you need a change of scenery and some caffeine fuel. You may have seen their geometric wall online – perfect for that Instagram aesthetic 😉 and they have bight bright windows for natural light.

They also have a patio in the warm weather months – c’monnn Spring!

Social Media Campaign

I’d love to see more of the interior pics on social, showing the atmosphere + more fun coffee posts, like pour videos! All in all, they’re doing a great job online.

Skip the Dishes + GIVEAWAY

Skip the Dishes has landed in Hamilton!

What is Skip the Dishes? Head over to their website, create an account, plug in your address and take a look at all the delicious places that deliver to you. Pick your meal off the menus online, submit your order and watch the deliver take place in real time on a map!

Most of the places that are available for delivery are places that wouldn’t normally deliver. Think Burger’s Priest, Lou Dawgs, McQueen’s Banh Mi and more! (Plus I noticed they’re adding more all the time, like Burrito Boyz and Chao.)

Note: Delivery currently starts at 5pm in Hamilton, longer hours are launching soon, but in the daytime Pick-up is available.

Even though this service helps save time for the average user, I probably spent around 45 minutes deciding what I wanted to eat. Such a tough decision for a foodie! I ended up with Conquistador, a Portuguese classic, and ordered:

Sauteed Shrimp – Gamas a la Planche: My favourite dish of the meal. Shell on, saucy shrimp. I could eat so many of these.

Garden Salad: Classic garden salad with a mustard? Infused dressing. Nice as a side!

Grilled Cod (Bacalhau a-La Conquistador) with Potatoes and Veg: Very well-cooked, but this one was good if you’re looking for something on the lighter end.

Rotisserie Chicken with Potatoes and Veg: This chicken was absolutely tasty. It was moist with a salty skin, very delicious, I’d recommend this one if you aren’t a seafood fan! I loved the Parisian style round potatoes that came with this one.

Super pleased with this order, since I hadn’t had Conquistador before. Next time I’d definitely try more seafood and clams. But then again, there are so many options with Skip the Dishes – who knows what I’ll try next!

Whether co owner John-Michael is focusing on firefighting, law, or culinary – it seems like all his ventures focus on making a difference in the community…and aren’t we lucky that he (along with Co-owner Chadwick!) has now settled on Fork and Lean, because it’s delicious!

Based out of the cooperative kitchen, Kitchen Collective, Fork and Lean aims to bring inexpensive, healthy food to the masses…something to match every diet! There’s no added sodium, gluten or dairy added to their food. Basically, if you’re on a diet or have a need to eat healthy – this is your go to. If you’re not on a diet, who cares because this food is still tasty!

Choose from their menu items on their site (quite a few to choose from!), they’ll make it to order at Kitchen Collective and then you can go pick it up on their set pick up days. Super simple and no need to go to that drive thru window!

When I visited Fork + Lean,I tried their Turkey Meat’Ballin Penne, courtesy of John-Michael!: brown rice penne, turkey meatballs, signature roasted tomato sauce, signature spinach and basil pesto, leeks.

Now some people think of healthy meals as having no flavour, boring…etc. This was SO not the case with this dish. It was super flavourful, garlicky and herby, with the leeks giving an extra little boost. And I couldn’t believe how well-sized this portion was, especially at only 7.99. It actually gave me, and one other person, a lunch. Though all the nutritional details are listed online – so you can decide what the right size is for you.
