The Blend Smoothies Evolved

Though it’s not right in Hamilton, the Binbrook food scene (as well as the neighbourhood around it) has been growing in leaps and bounds over the last few years. The latest addition to the Binbrook food scene is the health-friendly, The Blend Smoothies Evolved.

The expansive restaurant in the plaza just off Fall Fair Way, strikes you first with their décor – clean white features, a living moss wall in the shape of their logo, big sparkling overhead lights, and a modern fireplace and sitting area complete with wingback chairs.

The second thing to greet you as you walk in, is the friendly service. The owners, Ken and Chanel, and The Blend team treat everyone as a friend rather than a customer and you feel like you’re dining with them in their home, rather than purchasing from a brand. They’re also hoping to become very involved in the community – starting out with sponsoring sports teams and offering 10% off to some local sports teams. Visit them for deets on this!

On the menu, they offer everything from blended smoothies (favourites include The Blend, The G.O.A.T., Recovery and more), smoothie bowls and food items like overnight oats or energy bars, coffee, tea and wheatgrass shots.

Blended Smoothies ($5.50 for 14oz, $7.75 for 24oz) 
While there, we tried the Maca Smoothie (Organic Maca Powder, Blueberries, Banana, Vanilla Almond Milk, Cinnamon, Pure Vanilla Extract) and the Coconut Crave (Coconut Water, Kale, Banana, Mango, Coconut Extract). The Coconut Crave was right up my alley, with flavours of banana, and coconut. The Maca Smoothie reminded me a lot of taro ice cream, from colour to flavour! If taro is your thing, definitely try this one out. Their smoothies are vegan friendly, (which my vegan friend loved) and come in a variety of tasty options so that anyone is able to find a new fave.

Smoothie Bowls
If you’re feeling like something a bit more substantial than a smoothie, try one of their food items (Morning Fuel overnight oats, Extreme Granola energy and more) or smoothie bowls! We tried the base of one of the smoothie bowls while there: the Binbrook Bowl for $8 (Banana, Chocolate Almond Milk, Natural Peanut Butter, Cocoa Powder, Maca Powder, Chia Seeds). It tasted like a Reeses’ Peanut Butter cup, but way healthier! Definitely something I could get behind.

Organic Fair-trade Coffee
The Blend Smoothies Evolved brings in local Coffeecology coffee beans, and have even crafted a whole feature wall dedicated to the tasty beans. Coffeecology has also launched their own loose leaf tea line, which The Blend Smoothies Evolved carries. Try the Earl Grey! It’s got cornflowers in it, which give it a deliciously creamy flavour.

Wheatgrass
If you’re feeling like you need a health boost – try one of their wheatgrass shots. Per 1oz, wheatgrass is said to be equal to 2.5lbs of veggies. Pretty cool, even if the flavour is something that requires some getting used to!
