Looking to try something new in 2019?
At the Kitchen Collective in Hamilton, you can do just that, with a cooking class or cooking workshop with Chef Erica Guidi of Blend Catering.
I was lucky enough to get invited to one of her workshop style classes at the end of 2018, and was so glad I ended up going! Each night has a different theme and you and a small group of others will work in the commercial kitchen to create a giant feast together. In addition to making the huge meal, you’ll also learn some of the basics like general knife skills and easier ways to cut onions or mince garlic.
Andrea from I’m Mad Hungry blog and I ended up choosing the Middle Eastern workshop night (though with options like Pasta, Keto night, or French, that was a tough decision). That night, we ended up creating a plethora of amazing items like Hummus, Fattoush, 7 Spice Beef Kofta, Yogurt Marinated Shish Tawook Chicken Skewers, Falafel and Fried Cauliflower with Green Tahini Sauce. At the end of the night you get to enjoy the meal – and take quite a bit home.
We left with the recipes, along with some new knowledge on how to create amazing Middle Eastern food in the comfort of our own homes. It was hard to choose a favourite dish, but most of the recipes I’d remake again and again – the fattoush dressing was spectacular and so simple, and the beef kofta had some bold flavours that, on my own, I may not have added.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy the three hour long class of fundamentals, and some from the group who met at the beginning of the class left as friends.
Upcoming workshop and class themes include everything from Knife Skills 101 to Soup recipes, Pasta 2.0, Vegan Thai and a Valentine’s Night and can be found on the Blend Catering website. The costs are around $65 to $105 per person depending on the theme and style of class that you choose.

Hello, awesome website – love to learn more about your classes for my own personal experience – I’m a bit of a foodie too – but I also work in the North End of Hamilton at Compass Community Health (formerly North Hamilton CHC) – and we’re hosting an Employee Wellness event – thought it would be cool and exciting to have a chef teach us about knife skills or healthy lunch options, etc. Is this something you might be interested in doing. Either way I’m very interested to learn more about your cooking classes!!…and I know some of our other 120 staff would too.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Marianne
